The 2020 Kosciusko County Fair, which was set to be held July 12th-18th, has been canceled.

Fair Board President Shane Checketts confirmed the information via e-mail this morning, saying the fair board voted on the decision at Monday night’s meeting.

Checketts said that it was a “very difficult (decision),” saying that Kosciusko County was one of the last fairs in the region to make the decision to cancel. He said that the fair may “decide to modify some things and maybe provide different various events during that week or at a later date. But that is undetermined at this point.”

Checketts went on to say in his statement:

“Our hope was to provide some events and entertainment during a time when we feel the need for something normal is stronger than ever. However, as we got closer to fair time, more and more organizations, vendors, and providers were cancelling and this made it difficult, if not impossible, to carry on with a normal fair week.

In addition, we are concerned about the health and safety of everyone involved in the fair, including the patrons. We felt that the risk was still higher than we were hoping. These factors are what led to this decision.

We will continue to look into possibilities of holding smaller or more individual events that we may be able to safely provide to the community, and do so in accordance with state and federal guidelines.”
