STATEHOUSE — Area farms were recently honored by the state with Hoosier Homestead awards, according to State Rep. Craig Snow (R-Warsaw) and State Sen. Stacey Donato (R-Logansport).

“Farm families make Indiana a top contributor in agriculture year in and year out,” Snow said. “I always appreciate seeing Hoosiers like this be recognized for the perseverance they’ve demonstrated over many years.”

Hoosier Homestead awards honor farms owned and operated by the same family for 100, 150 and 200 with centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial awards.

The following farms received Hoosier Homestead awards:

  • The Carlin Farm, in operation since 1838, received the sesquicentennial award;
  • The Creighton Farm, in operation since 1870, received centennial and sesquicentennial awards; and
  • The Creighton Farm, in operation since 1922, received the centennial award.

These farm families were among 95 awardees recently honored during a ceremony at the Indiana State Fair.

“It’s an honor to recognize the families in our community who have upheld Indiana’s proud farming traditions for generations,” Donato said. “Their commitment strengthens both our economy and our agricultural legacy.”

Hoosier Homestead ceremonies are conducted every spring and summer. Since establishing the program in 1976, Indiana has recognized more than 6,000 farms for their economic and cultural impact to the state.
