“Picturing Pierceton: Then & Now”

May 19 @ 6:45 pm - 8:00 pm

Presentation Will Explore Pierceton’s Historic Downtown
“Picturing Pierceton: Then & Now”
May 19, 6:45 p.m., Pierceton Community Building

PIERCETON, Ind. — The public is invited to “Picturing Pierceton: Then & Now,” a free slide presentation on Tuesday, May 19, at 6:45 p.m. at the Pierceton Community Building, 105 W. Walnut St.

Through rare historical photographs paired with recent views, historian and Pierceton native Joan Hostetler will bring Pierceton’s downtown to life. Topics include the oldest surviving Italianate-style structures dating to 1882, the great fire of 1895 that destroyed the west side of First Street, the work of hometown architect Frank Logan, and how the antiques trade put Pierceton on the map. The downtown commercial district is remarkably intact and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

This Historic Preservation Month program is part of the Pierceton Public Library’s America 250 celebration and is sponsored by the Library, with assistance from the Pierceton Heritage Association. Funding is provided by a Historic Preservation Education Grant from Indiana Humanities and Indiana Landmarks.

Bring your Pierceton-area photographs for the Library’s digital archive — a scanner will be on hand to copy them during the program.
