Two-year-old girl in Elkhart shot while asleep; listed in critical condition

ELKHART — A two-year-old child in Elkhart was in critical condition Tuesday morning after being shot while asleep.
Police responded to reports of a shooting shortly before 1 a.m. in the 1000 block of West  Garfield Avenue.
An initial investigation indicates the girl was asleep inside the residence when gunfire hit the home, striking the child.
Her parents took her to Elkhart General Hospital, where she was later transported by med flight to the IU Pediatric Trauma Center at Riley Hospital.
She was believed to be in critical condition.
Elkhart Police collected evidence at the scene, and no arrests have been made as of early Tuesday.
