Nappanee Crash Caused By Seizure

A two vehicle collision in Nappanee Tuesday was the result of an individual having a seizure while driving. Just before noon, 39 year old Wanda Schlemmer of Mishawaka was driving her 1999 Jeep SUV west on US 6 when the medical incident began. The seizure caused Schlemmer to accelerate rapidly and the passenger with her could not stop the vehicle before it struck the rear passenger side of a 2009 Ford SUV, being driven by 34 year old Trisha Rouch of Nappanee, and then a pole. After striking the first vehicle, the Jeep then continued across US 6 where it struck a building and another unoccupied vehicle before coming to a stop. An infant that was in the second vehicle was transported by air to Riley's Children's Hospital for a serious head injury. Upon further investigation, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were both found in Schlemmer's vehicle. The crash is currently under investigation by the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team.
