Police in Elkhart County responded to an unusual 911 call Monday afternoon.

Shortly after 12:30 in the afternoon, officers arrived at the Dollar General on West Bristol Street. A suspect at the store was said to be “acting crazy” according to the caller, who then disconnected the call.

When they arrived, the police found a vehicle driving over the curb with the passenger side door open, leaving the area at a high rate of speed. A pursuit ended at West Beardsley Avenue and North Nappanee Street when the vehicle struck a semi trailer. The driver and two passengers were treated for minor injuries.

It turned to be a domestic situation, with the driver, 22 year-old Charles Jennings of South Bend, being arrested for auto theft, resisting law enforcement, criminal confinement and criminal recklessness after forcing his way behind the wheel of his ex-girlfriend’s car with their child in the backseat.
