Republican Caucus Set For Syracuse Ward 3 Seat

Kosciusko County Republican Central Committee has called for a second caucus within the past month. This time, it’s to fill the Syracuse Town Board Ward 3 seat vacated by Tom Hoover.

The other caucus is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sept. 17 to fill the seat left by Jim Zachary, who died in August.

Hoover resigned, effective Sept. 30, as he is moving out of the Council district.

The caucus to select Hoover’s replacement is in the Syracuse Town Council Chamber, 310 N. Huntington St., at 6 p.m. Sept. 20.

A Syracuse Town Board member for Ward 3 will be elected by secret ballot of the majority of the members of the voting caucus to fill the vacancy in the office.

Declarations of candidacy are available at the office of Kosciusko County Clerk of the Circuit Court, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw, and must be filed with Ragan no later than 72 hours prior to the commencement of the caucus.

Eligible candidates must reside in Syracuse, Indiana Ward 3, and be a Republican in good standing, Candidates will be allowed a maximum of three minutes to address the voting caucus.

The person selected for the Town Board seat will take office Oct. 1.

The caucus will include Republican precinct committee members in Turkey Creek Township, precincts 2, 3, 4 and 5 in Syracuse, who have served continuously from 30 days prior to the date of the beginning of the caucus.
