WARSAW — Extensive conversations between the city of Warsaw and Norfolk Southern Railroad have led to an agreement that will spur some improvements at two crossings.

City officials say railroad crossings on Market Street and Winona Avenue will be upgraded this year.

The agreement requires the city to contribute more than $300,000 for the work.

Public Works Director Dustin Dillon talked about the new agreement at Friday’s Board of Works meeting.

“This is a chance to partner with them,” Dillon said. “We’ve got to put a little skin in the game here, to partner with them to hopefully create that longevity for the crossings.”

Warsaw Mayor Jeff Gross says the improvements will benefit far more than just city residents, referencing the amount of downtown traffic during the day.

It’s been real positive,” Grose said. “There’s a lot of money involved. I firmly believe it’s in our best interest.”

No dates were announced for when the work will happen.
