Alice Evelyn Koontz

Alice Evelyn Koontz of Winona Lake, Indiana, went home to be with her Lord and Savior whom she loved and served, Sunday, February 6, 2022, at Grace Village Assisted Living, Winona Lake, Indiana, at the age of 89.

Alice was born in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania, on June 26, 1932, to Sara Elizabeth (Gingrich) and Claude Kegarise Snider. On April 13, 1957, she married the love of her life, Charles Hollis Koontz, in Pennsylvania. They were blessed with three sons, and they were able to watch them grow up into men they were proud of. Alice and Charles celebrated many birthdays and anniversaries throughout their 64 years of marriage before he passed away on December 18, 2021.

Alice graduated from Roaring Spring High School, Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania, in 1950, from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, in 1954, and from Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana, in 1956. Alice was always at her husband’s side, supporting him wherever God called them. Alice worked as church secretary at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church for 26 years, retiring in 1995. In retirement she served as office secretary of Right to Life of North Central Indiana.

Alice enjoyed going to church with her husband and family at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church where they were members for over 60 years. She loved to keep active and was a member of Women of Grace having formerly served as a national officer. She also enjoyed volunteering in the church library. She and Charles were fond of their cruises and traveling to watch their children and grandchildren perform and play sports. Alice enjoyed knitting afghans, washcloths, and Right to Life baby pouches. She enjoyed cheering for Grace basketball and soccer teams. Alice relished her role as a homemaker, being a great cook and cookie baker, a cheerleader, a driver…anything her family needed her to be. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Alice delighted in reading her Bible and loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and is now reunited with Charles in Heaven.

Alice will be lovingly remembered by her three sons: David (Linda) of Winona Lake, Indiana, Doug of Warsaw, Indiana, and Steve (Christine) of Winona Lake, Indiana. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren: Ashley (John) Miller, Beth, Kate, Scott, and Michael Koontz, and two great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, H. David Snider and R. Wayne Snider, and her husband.

Friends and family are invited to share visitation time from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.  Alice will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Charles, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 11, 2022, at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw, Indiana.  Alice’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2022, at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, 1200 Kings Highway, Winona Lake, Indiana, and officiated by Pastor Bruce Barlow.
