Amateur Cooks Needed for Fundraising Event

Cooks are being sought for the annual fundraising event, “Cooks Who Care” in Warsaw. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 19.

This year’s event will be held at the Center Lake Pavilion in Warsaw from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

“Cooks Who Care” began in 2016 as a fundraiser for the Kosciusko County Riley Kids Fund. It is put on by radio station WRSW. Throughout the past few years, the event has been held in various locations, including downtown Warsaw and the Warsaw Airport, and has undergone a couple of name changes.

“We called it ’50 Men Who Cook’ the first year, just to be unique,” said Kris Lake, Operations Manager at WRSW. “We thought it would be fun to see men, who may not normally do the cooking at home, step up and show us what they could do.”

By 2017, the event was renamed “Cooks Who Care,” and featured several female chefs who agreed to participate.

The event has also been riddled with severe weather.

“The first year (2016) was unbelievably perfect. The weather was great,” Lake said. “The second year at the airport, we got rained on before we could finish the event and last year was a complete wash-out. We never even got to start the event.”

By moving the fundraiser to Warsaw’s Center Lake Pavilion, organizers intend to hold the event rain or shine.

“We can have booths inside if the weather is being uncooperative,” Lake shared while reminding that the event is flexible enough to be held outdoors if the weather permits.

Lake also said that the participating cooks are what makes the event successful. Some cooks have participated each year while some are first timers. However, the event is in needs of charity cooks.

“You don’t have to be good, that’s not what this is about,” he said. “We just want people who want to have a good time and help out a very worthwhile cause.”

Interested cooks, chefs and bakers are encouraged to sign up to participate right away. The event needs a minimum of 30 to be held.

“It’s important to note that every single penny made on this event goes to the (KC Riley Kids) fund,” added Lake. “The more cooks we have, the more tickets we can sell, the more money we can make for the fund. It’s as simple as that.”
