The Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County has named their new Executive Director.

Last Friday, the AWL board approved Sally Scott to take the open position. Scott has been with the organization for three years this coming February.

She says the position is one she applied for previously when the Executive Director position was open and after learning that the spot was open again, she re-applied and this time, she was chosen.

Scott says she is super excited to take up the position. “We’ve done so many wonderful things so far, but I think we still have a really long way to go and I think working together, we can get there.”

As far as goals go, she has some things in mind already. “For starters, I want to kick off on our fundraising. We have some bills that we need to pay and the sooner we get them paid off, the better. I want to start doing some events to help bring in that funding for the shelter.”

“I am also hoping to put in place some new volunteer programs, get the community involved in ways they can help pets and people.” Scott added.

Scott mentioned that she has always had a love for animals. Before the AWL, her background was in graphic design, illustration and graphic novels and interested in storytelling. She wants to implement those abilities to tell the story of the shelter and it’s pets and hopes it can be used to help in adoptions.

Scott also said that the move that the AWL made earlier this year into a new facility has been a huge change. “I think the animals are much happier and comfortable. I think our staff is really enjoying the new space, they have places to put things, places to relax. We aren’t having ceiling tiles falling unexpectedly, no holes in the wall, no problems with pests. We also have more room to take in more animals and overall, boosts what we can do for the community.”

You can visit the new facility at 1048 South 325 East, Pierceton, just south of US 30. You can also find more information about the organization on their website, awlwarsaw.com

Sally can also be heard weekly on Wednesday’s on Willie 103.5 FM with Chris Cage with the Animal Welfare League’s “Pet of the Week.”
