Ax Man Sentenced For Damage To Planned Parenthood

A southern Indiana man has been sentenced to three years of probation after pleading guilty to using an ax to smash windows and damage computers at a Planned Parenthood clinic.
A federal magistrate also ordered 28-year-old Benjamin David Curell on Tuesday to pay more than $22,000 in restitution for the April 2013 vandalism at the Bloomington clinic. The Ellettsville man pleaded guilty to violating a law that makes it a federal crime to damage the property of a reproductive health services center because of the services offered there. Curell told police he broke into the clinic because it performed abortion services and he wanted to shut it down. His federal sentence will run concurrently with a state sentence he received on a felony burglary charge stemming from the same incident.
