Bank robbery suspect shot by Elkhart police officer

A bank robbery suspect was shot by an Elkhart police officer.

The incident began just after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, when officers were called to the First Source Bank branch in the 2000 block of East Bristol Street, on the report of an armed robbery.

The suspects entered the bank displaying handguns and demanded money. After
taking an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspects took off on foot, according to a news release from theĀ Elkhart Police Department.

Officers located a possible suspect vehicle leaving the area. When an officer attempted to stop the vehicle, near the intersection of Osolo Road and County Road 6, the vehicle sped off.

The vehicle pursuit ended in the 700 block of South 6th Street and the suspects took off on foot.

During the foot pursuit one officer fired his gun, striking one of the suspects. The other two suspects were apprehended at different locations.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.
