Big crowds expected for national Ski competition in Warsaw

WARSAW — Beginning Friday morning, Over 2,000 athletes, considered to be the best skiers in the nation will be competing in Warsaw this weekend for IndMar Marine Division One Show Ski Nationals.

Friday features individual competition while Saturday features team completions at Hudden Lake.

Chuck Mclaughlin, with the host Lake City Skiers, said they this is the second time they’ve hosted the finals in four years and he’s expecting a big crowd.

“Over the course of the weekend, there will probably be ten to thirteen thousand total. With people coming and going throughout the day, it’s usually a crowd of two thousand to twenty-five hundred,” Laughlin said.

For local residents, it’s a chance to see some elite skiing.

“It’s the best of the best,” Laughlin said.

He suggests spectators arrive early Friday morning or Saturday morning.

The local Lake City Ski Team performs at 7:50 a.m. Saturday.

Team USA, made up of the best of the best, will be practicing on Monday and Tuesday for  35 spots and and a chance to compete in the worlds tournament in Australia

Admission is free for this weekend’s activities, but there is a $5 parking fee.
