WARSAW — Brad Jackson, who served 28 years as a Kosciusko County Commissioner and announced his retirement in February of 2024, is forming an exploratory committee with the idea of running for county council.

The move appears to be an attempt to get an early jump to unseat incumbent Kimberly Cates, who represents the council’s District 1 seat in the northern part of the county.

Jackson lives in Syracuse.

The paperwork references running for the District 1 seat.

Jackson, who has never lost an election and had a bridge named after him to recognize his role in the project, filed paperwork on Friday.

He confirmed his plans Saturday in a phone call with News Now Warsaw.

He said his retirement as a commissioner and as an executive with his family business has left him with enough time to continue to contribute to the community.

He said he plans to announce his intentions within the next few weeks.

The move comes shortly ahead of the annual GOP Fish Fry, which is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Kosciuako County Fairgrounds.

It also represents the first volley ahead of next year’s election season, which will include four seats on the council that are up for election.

Those other seats are held by Republicans and include: Joe Irwin (District 2), who was appointed by a Republican caucus earlier this year after the unexpected death of councilman Mike Long; Council President Tony Ciriello (District 3) and Dave Wolkins (District 4), who is a former state representative.
