Kosciusko County officials are investigating a crash on State Road 13 near 200 North.

52-year-old James Ernsberger of Bremen was killed in the crash.

It happened Saturday after 1 p.m. when authorities say a northbound Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling in a group of motorcycles. For an unknown reason, the operator laid the motorcycle down in the roadway without making contact with another vehicle.

The Times-Union reports the motorcycle was traveling in American Legion Post 154 Riders’ 10th annual 9/11 Ride To Remember 2018, a benefit to help the Homeless Veteran’s Center, cancer patients and families in need during the holidays.

Ernsberger was ejected from the bike and found unresponsive. He was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital and later died of multiple head and neck injuries.

The Kosciusko County Fatal Team was assisted at the scene by members of the Pierceton Fire Department, North Webster Fire Department, Lutheran EMS, Lutheran Air Ambulance, and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
