Out of an abundance of caution, Chautauqua-Wawasee along with this year’s partners,
the Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce and Syracuse Parks and Recreation
Department have decided to cancel this year’s Old Fashioned Christmas event which
was to take place Nov. 28 in Syracuse.
“This is a big disappointment for all of us who have put so much effort in planning this
community event” said Mark Knecht of Chautauqua-Wawasee. “With the support of the
Syracuse Chamber of Commerce and Town of Syracuse, this year’s event planned to
be a step up from last year’s. But our team all felt that given the uptick in Covid
positivity rates in Kosciusko and surrounding counties, that canceling was the
responsible thing to do”.
Covid ratings for surrounding counties are level “red”. Organizers were concerned
about hosting an event should Kosciusko County go to level red due to the rising
number of COVID cases.
Organizers are already looking to bring the event back in 2021.
