A mobile home fire Tuesday in Claypool was started by a wood burner, according to Burket Fire Department Chief Kevin McSherry.

Burket got the call about the structure fire on S. Smalley Lane, Claypool, at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday.

“We got it knocked down quick,” McSherry said.

“The wood burner was the main source of heat for the mobile home and it got away from him,” McSherry said. The wood burner was inside the mobile home.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no one was injured.

The mobile home had a build-on to its side. McSherry said the structure was still sound, but there was heat and fire damage on the inside. He estimated the damage to be $30,000 to $40,000.

Mentone Fire Department was called for a full assist, with Henry Township on standby.

There were about 15 firefighters on scene.
