Congresswoman Jackie Walorski joins House Ways and Means Committee

2nd District Congresswoman Jackie Walorski is joining the oldest committee in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The third-term Republican from South Bend joins David Schweikert (R-AZ) and Carlos Curbelo (R-FL) as newly-minted Republicans in the influential Ways and Means Committee.

The Ways and Means Committee is a bipartisan committee that addresses revenue, appropriations, and banking matters. This includes dealing with tariffs, trade agreements, and the bonded debt of the United States. In more recent history, the committee has dealt with Social Security, Medicare, an social services programs.

“David, Jackie, and Carlos are excellent additions to the Ways and Means Committee,” said committee chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) in a news release.

“They are joining our team at a historic moment as we move forward on pro-growth tax reform, repealing Obamacare, and ensuring Americans finally have access to affordable care. Jackie’s a former state representative and now a Member of Congress, Jackie has repeatedly led the way on legislation that will grow our economy, increase wages, and help lift more Americans out of poverty,” Brady said.

Walorski was recommended by the House Steering Committee to serve on the Ways and Means Committee.
