Coroner Rules Death Of Notre Dame Student As Accidental

The coroner has ruled the death of the Notre Dame student who fell from the roof of the Joyce Center as accidental, due to blunt force trauma. 21 year-old William Meckling was a mechanical engineering major and a member of the fencing team. He was from Centennial Colorado. Notre Dame Police were approached by students who said they needed help, just before 4 o'clock on Saturday morning. Emergency crews used CPR to try to revive Meckling, but were not able to. He was one of several students who gained access to the roof of the building, then slipped from the surface, which was wet due to rain. Notre Dame President the Reverend John Jenkins called the incident a terrible tragedy and one of profound sadness.
