Credit card skimmer found at Goshen ATM

If you have used a credit or debit card at any Goshen ATMs recently, you may want to check your statement.

A card skimmer was found on an ATM at First Source Bank in Goshen over the weekend, according to the Elkhart Truth.

A skimmer device was placed on a machine at the branch on Elkhart Road. Skimmers can be hidden within the machine, but in this instance it was a green reader placed over the actual ATM reader, according to the Goshen Police Department.

These type of skimmers can look innocuous, but they do sometimes cover letters or words on the ATM. If you see anything “new” on an ATM that looks supicious, you’re being asked to not use the machine and contact the bank. Also, if the reader “wiggles”, then it’s probably not a legitimate card reader.

In a release, First Source says the bank is actively monitoring and tracking debit and ATM card activity for any signs of fraud in order to protect their customers. The devices fit over the existing card slot and record your information, and have been spotted on numerous machines nationwide.
