Don’t forget: Set your clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday

Winter is coming — made apparent by cold temperatures, Christmas trees already on sale and the end of Daylight Saving Time.

Hoosiers will fall back at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, when clocks will automatically roll back one hour.

Daylight Saving Time has been observed throughout all of Indiana since 2006, when then-Gov. Mitch Daniels pushed for statewide-DST. Before then, only counties in the Central time zone observed DST.

On Sunday, we gain back the hour that we lost when we “sprang forward” earlier in the year.

It may not be a long amount of time, but here are a few things that you can do with your “extra” hour this weekend:

  • Floss (it’ll make your dentist happy).
  • Send that email you’ve been putting off for far too long. Yeah. That one.
  • Call your parents.
  • Try out an extravagant new recipe.
  • Catch up on your reading.
  • Finish your Stranger Things marathon.
  • Get some extra sleep — totally guilt-free.

Whatever you do, make sure you remember to turn your clocks back an hour before you head to bed Saturday night or when you wake up Sunday morning.

It is also a good time to check the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, as many public safety officials recommend using the beginning and ending of Daylight Savings Time as a good rule-of-thumb way to remember to do so.
