UPDATE: Dozens of injuries, possible fatalities in US 33 crash

UPDATE: We are learning more information about the bus crash that happened on US 33 north of Churubusco.

News Now Warsaw has learned 40 people were on the bus at the time of the crash. 16 people suffered from minor scrapes and injuries. One person was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The Whitley County Sheriff says the SUV driver died at the scene, according to our partners at 21Alive.

The bus was traveling from Gary Indiana to Canton Ohio when the crash occurred. The SUV sped up and crossed the center line. The Whitley County Sheriff says the Barons bus driver slowed and pulled hard to right to avoid the crash.

They are working on transporting more people to the hospital who need care. Others are waiting to hear how they can get luggage & to their final destination

The bus dash cam has been recovered by investigators.


CHURUBUSCO – More than 30 people were injured and two people were airlifted to a hospital after a crash involving a Barons bus on Thursday.

U.S. 33 is closed just north of Churubusco between Blue Lake Road and the Noble/Whitley county line because of the crash, according to Whitley County dispatch. The crash happened around 11:04 a.m. Thursday.  It had been originally reported it was a Greyhound bus.

Police dispatch confirmed there were 30-to-50 injuries at the scene, with at least one “probable” fatality. Two people were airlifted to a local hospital.

Police expect the road to be closed for awhile.
