Drowning at Heaton Lake in Elkhart leaves one boy dead

A 10-year-old boy has died as a result of a drowning incident at Heaton Lake in Elkhart.

Indiana Conservation Officer Jonathan Boyd tells News Now Warsaw a lifeguard first saw a 9-year-old struggling in the water Friday afternoon and pulled him out. CPR was administered to the 9-year-old before he was transported to Elkhart General Hospital.

Lifeguards then used a human chain to locate a 10-year-old boy. He was found under water and was rushed to EMS.

Boyd says the 9-year-old is in fair condition and is expected to fully recover, but the 10-year-old did not recover.

Indiana Conservation Officers along with a special unit of Elkhart Police are still investigating this incident.
