WARSAW — Pike Lake and Winona Lake were both closed to swimming on Tuesday because of high E. coli counts.

In both cases, the public is asked not to swim or wade in either lake until test results show E. coli levels that do not pose a health risk.

The Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department is temporarily closing Pike Lake beach due to high E. coli counts as of Tuesday.

Retesting of Winona Lake is currently under way and results were expected to be available as soon as noon Wednesday.

Kosciusko County Health Department is expected to announce when the lakes are safe for swimming.

The simultaneous closure of two nearby lakes in Kosciusko County is the first in recent memory.
