Eight-year-old Warsaw student killed when struck by a car while crossing Husky Trail

A Warsaw Community Schools student was killed when struck by a car.

Warsaw Police and first responders were on scene in the area of Husky Trail at North Pointe Drive shortly after 1:45 p.m. Monday.

Preliminary investigation indicates the child had been crossing Husky Trail at the crosswalk at the time of the collision.

While being transported to Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital, EMS diverted to Whitley Parkview in Columbia City, where the child was pronounced dead.

Identification of the victim will be released after confirmation of family notification.

Warsaw Community Schools confirms the child was attending summer school. School officials issued the following statement:

Warsaw Community Schools was informed a WCS student was struck by a motor vehicle on Husky Trail near Harrison Elementary. Warsaw Community Schools’ staff and administration extend their thoughts and prayers to those affected. The district is working alongside local law enforcement to assist in any way possible in their investigation.

Warsaw Police and Kosciusko County’s Fatal Team continues to investigate.Â
