Elkhart County police issue appeal in case of missing Middlebury girl

ELKHART — A missing persons case involving a 12-year-old girl is gaining more attention from the Elkhart Sheriff’s Office.

Aleeyah Cockburn, from Middlebury, has been missing a week and has been the subject of a Silver alert issued on Monday.

On Friday, the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement saying it is actively conducting an investigation relating to Aleeyah “and the address of 53150 SR 13 Middlebury.”

The statement adds, “We appreciate the community involvement and the outreach from community members on this investigation. We are asking that any search parties or community involvement in this investigation consult with the Elkhart
County Sheriff’s Office prior to getting involved so as to not hinder the ongoing law
enforcement investigation.”

Aleeyah is 4′ 11″ tall, eighty pounds, and has black hair with green eyes. She was last seen wearing a black beanie, a multi-colored gray and pink jacket, blue jeans and black boots.
