Emergency Repairs To Historic Building

Crothersville officials are calling for emergency repairs to a building that once housed a library, a drugstore and a bank before it collapses into the town's main intersection. Town Council President Ardell Mitchell tells The Tribune in Seymour that the front facade of the building is slipping and will eventually fall if it isn't shored up. The building has been vacant for years. Its owners were filed $5,000 by the town's safety board in July, but town attorney Jeff Lorenzo says they never responded to the notice or paid the bill. The council is seeking a court order requiring the safety issues to be addressed. Mitchell says officials are worried that those passing by the building could be injured in a collapse.
