Equifax Settlement Opens Door for Claims

ATLANTA — If you were affected by the Equifax data breach, you can file a claim for your share of a multi-million dollar settlement.

More than 147 million Americans had their personal information compromised in 2017 after hackers were able to access private information — including Social Security numbers — by exploiting a security flaw.

Equifax this week reached a $700 million settlement with the Federal Trade Commission. The company set aside $425 million to compensate those affected.

How to Find Out If You’re Eligible

To find out if your information was compromised, visit the Equifax Eligibility Checker and enter your last name and the last six digits of your Social Security Number.

If you are eligible, follow the prompts on the screen to file a claim.

Those impacted could get a payout of $125 (or more) and free credit monitoring.

The deadline to file is Jan. 22, 2020.
