The annual Easter egg hunt at the fairgrounds has been cancelled and sponsors are needed for the fair.

Fair Board member Kevin Harris said at Monday’s meeting that the Kosciusko County Health Department advised against the annual Easter egg hunt that potentially draws 500 people.

On another note, Harris said the fair has only received a small portion of what is needed to put on the fair.

“We’re trying to get people to sponsor different grandstand events,” Harris said, adding that those events are now included in the admission price to the fair.

The fair is scheduled to run July 11-17. The grandstand events planned are the rodeo Monday, monster trucks Tuesday, horse harness racing Wednesday, demolition derby Friday and truck and tractor pull Saturday. Thursday is still open for ideas, Harris said.

Sponsors also are needed for the on-ground entertainment that includes tigers, an Aussie experience and the educational petting zoo.

The fair’s theme will be announced next month, Fair Board President Shane Checketts said, saying he will put together a list of ideas rolling in on Facebook for the annual theme contest.

Barry Ostrom, 4-H Council president, said Monday that Purdue University is so far giving the OK for a 4-H animal fair, however, he said he’s not sure what that will look like just yet. More information will come as the fair dates get closer, he said.

The fair’s annual barbecue fundraiser kicks off this weekend, with carryout for businesses starting Friday. Companies can support the fair by ordering a barbecue lunch for their employees and have it delivered.

Cost is $10 per meal and includes a pulled pork sandwich, cowboy beans and coleslaw, or $10 per pound of pulled pork. Orders are due by Wednesday by calling 574-269-1823.

Carry-out and dine-in options for the fundraiser is 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, with meal and prices the same as the company carry-outs.

The next Kosciusko County Fair Board meeting is 7 p.m. April 5 through a virtual option by calling the fair office for a Zoom link.
