STEUBEN COUNTY — Local farmers came to the rescue after cattle were trapped in a trailer after a property damage crash in Steuben County.

The accident happened on Monday afternoon on US 20 near CR 900 West in Steuben County.

The crash investigation shows a 2015 Peterbilt tractor pulling a livestock trailer was headed west on US 20 and was driving too fast going into the curves near West Otter Lake Road.

The tractor/trailer combination rolled onto its side as it attempted to make the curve.

The driver was not injured, but the crash shut down US 20 in that area for several hours as local farmers arrived to help save the trapped cattle.

Unfortunately, some cattle did not make it through the crash. About 55 cattle survived and were rescued by local farmers who had heard about the crash and began arriving on the scene to assist.

The farmers loaded up the animals and took them to their farms where they will care for them until the transportation company can arrive and take them to the feeder lot where they were origionaly headed.
