Fatal crash in Marshall County, ISP investigating

MARSHALL COUNTY – The Indiana State Police are on scene of a fatal crash in Marshall County that happened shortly before 2:00 p.m. today on US 31 and 9A Road.  Portions of US 31 in the area are expected to remain restricted until approximately 5:30 p.m.

Preliminary investigation has shown that the driver of a 2007 Chevrolet Impala that was east bound on 9A Rd. pulled into the path of a semi tractor trailer and van that were south bound on US 31.  The semi struck the driver side door of the Impala and forced the car into the van.  The collision sent the Impala and van across the grass median and into the north bound lanes of US 31.  It appears the driver of the Impala was attempting to cross US 31.

The driver of the 2005 Kenworth semi tractor trailer, 36-year-old Emir Domazet, of Largo, Florida was in the driving lane of US 31.  Timothy Lands, 45, of Elkhart, was driving a 2015 Nissan van next to Domazet in the passing lane.

Both Domazet and Lands received minor injuries in the crash and were treated at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth for leg injuries.  The driver of the Impala died at the scene.  Their name will be released after notification has been made to family members.
