Fiat Chrysler recalls 86K+ pickups and police cars, 200K+ Jeep Wranglers

(WNDU) Fiat Chrysler is recalling more than 86,000 pickup trucks and police cars because a short circuit in the alternators can cause engines to stall or can lead to fires.

The recall covers certain Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks from model years 2007 through 2013, as well as Ram 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs and some Charger police cars.

Fiat Chrysler says it’s aware of one possibly related injury but no crashes. The company is also aware of fires, but a spokesman couldn’t say how many.

Fiat Chrysler is also recalling more than 200,000 Jeep Wrangler SUVs because the air bags may not inflate in a crash.

The recall covers certain Wranglers from the 2016 and 2017 model years in the U.S. and Canada.

In government documents, Fiat Chrysler says wiring to a sensor can come loose, cutting off signals to an air bag computer. If that happens, the seat belt pretensionsers won’t work and the air bag won’t deploy.

The problem was discovered during company crash tests.
