Goshen Inn demolition starts this week

There’s no room at the inn, and soon there will be no more inn altogether.

The process of demolishing the former Goshen Inn begins Monday with asbestos removal. That process is expected to take five to seven days, according to the Elkhart Truth.

The full-scale demolition, which is expected to take around 60 days, is expected to start on Monday, Nov. 28th.

The vacant inn on 1375 Lincolnway East has been vacant since 2011, when the owner was killed by an employee on the property. The city took control after a lengthy court battle with the owner’s family.

The city agreed in October to a $457,000 contract with E.T. MacKenzie to demolish the old inn to make way for new development. Brazil, Ind.-based Emmert Group Properties is planning on investing $10 million to build 17 apartment buildings with 194 living units, with rents starting at $1,000 a month.
