GOSHEN MAN AVOIDS PRISON IN OWI FATAL ACCIDENT

A Goshen man has been sentenced to work release after admitting to driving under the influence and causing the death of his passenger last January. 23-year old Alec Studabaker pleaded guilty to a Level 4 felony for the death of 21-year old Katherine McFarland. Studabaker lost control of his SUV on County Road 29, causing it to roll several times and ejecting McFarland from the vehicle. The Elkhart Truth reports that a judge sentenced Studabaker to six years in prison, but suspended two years and allowed him to serve his sentence at Elkhart County Community Corrections instead of going to prison. He also loses his driver’s license for five years.
