Goshen Resident ID cards to debut in December

Goshen Resident Identification, or GRID, cards will be available for Goshen residents in December.

The card is available for any Goshen resident, but it’s meant more for those who can’t get an official ID like a driver’s license. The Elkhart Truth reports that the Elkhart County HOPE Network hopes to start taking applications Tuesday.

The card, modeled after South Bend’s resident ID card, is good for city or school services, purchasing prescriptions, financial transactions and law enforcement contact. It can’t be used for voting or as a driver’s license.

The card costs $25 and requires documents verifying a resident’s identity and address. The Center for Healing and Hope will start taking calls Tuesday at 574-534-4744, Ext. 201. The first cards will be issued Dec. 1 and 15 between 3 and 7 p.m.
