House Fire Leads To Animal Hoarding Case

It started as a house fire and ended as a case of animal hoarding at a home near River Park in South Bend. Fire crews wre called to the 600 block of 24th Street early Tuesday morning. Inside the burning home–dozens of cats, dogs, rabbits and birds… A 65 year-old man was also taken out of the home and given oxygen. Animal Control officers arrived to care for some of the animals, which they loaded into their vans for proper care. It's believed the blaze started in the kitchen area.
