Indiana National Guard Commander Under Investigation

The Indiana National Guard is expected to release results of an investigation into spending by the commander of its Fort Wayne base. The investigation into 122nd Fighter Wing Commander Col. David Augustine began in May after someone filed a complaint accusing him of carelessly spending more than $230,000 since being appointed in January 2011.  Augustine said through a spokesman at the time that he wouldn't comment until the investigation was completed. Indiana National Guard Adjutant General Martin Umbarger is holding a news conference Wednesday to announce the findings of the investigation. The complaint against Augustine said he improperly spent $100,000 on classes for Guard members to learn how to give speeches, $50,000 for a neon sign and $30,000 to renovate a personal office.
