Indiana’s third Safe Haven Baby Box officially in service

The first Safe Haven Baby Box in central Indiana is officially in service.

The box at the Decatur Township Fire Department on Foltz Street is the third one in the state of Indiana. The climate-controlled boxes are safe incubators where parents can drop off their newborn babies.

They have alarm systems, so 911 is notified as soon as a baby is placed inside.

Monica Kelsey, founder of Safe Haven Baby Boxes, says she won’t be done any time soon.

The program started at the Woodburn Fire Department, with a second box later installed in Michigan City.
