Death of man released from Kosciusko County Jail ruled suicide

UPDATE: The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department has released the cause of death for the man found in a car on Main Street in Warsaw Thursday morning. The death was ruled a suicide, as the man had a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A man was found dead in a car parked and running in front of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department entrance Thursday morning.

He was discovered in a Prius at 8:40 a.m. in a parking spot along Main Street. The Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office and medics were called to the scene, where the man was pronounced dead.

The man had been arrested by the Winona Lake Police Department and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail Tuesday on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and resisting law enforcement.

At 5:16 a.m., he was released on his own recognizance.

His name was not being released pending notification of his family, according to KCSD Captain and Public Information Officer Chris McKeand.

The Coroner’s Office and the KCSD are investigating. The coroner has not ruled on the cause of death.
