Ivy Tech’s north central region possibly cutting jobs to fight deficit

Ivy Tech Community College‘s north central region is looking down the barrel at a $2.67 million budget deficit, and it’s making plans to fix that deficit.

Regional Chancellor Thomas Coley says their plans include potential employee reductions and layoffs, according to the South Bend Tribune.

The number of employees this will affect hasn’t been determined yet. No programs will be cut for the region, which includes St. Joseph, Elkhart, Kosciusko, and Marshall Counties.

Declining enrollment and the improvement regional job market are being blamed as reasons for the deficit and potential cutbacks. The college also may sell the Lung building on Industrial Parkway in Elkhart.

Cuts could take place in the next 18 to 24 months.
