Juvenile shot after car chase in Elkhart County

Elkhart, Ind. (News Now Warsaw): A car chase ends in police shooting the driver.

The Elkhart Police began pursuing a vehicle after 11 p.m. Sunday May 7 after seeing the driver commit traffic violations. Though the chase originally ended near County Road 20 and County Road 100, the vehicle again took off, entering the yard of a private residence.

Norfolk Southern Railroad Police were on the scene to assist. As the vehicle was again about to drive away, a Norfolk Southern Police officer shot towards it and hit the driver.

Indiana State Police say the driver is a juvenile and is being treated for a serious but non-life-threatening injury. The investigation into the incident continues.
