Kitchen Knife Incident Leads to Battery Arrest

A Warsaw woman was arrested Thursday for battery to a family or household member with a child under 16 present and battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, both level 6 felonies.
Kennedy Alexis Huffer, 20, of 909 W. Hoppus Road, Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail June 27 on an $11,000 bond.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office, on June 26 Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department officer Joel Popenfoose responded to a stabbing at 909 W. Hoppus Road, Warsaw. Upon arrival, Popenfoose spoke with the suspect, Huffer, and the victim.
Huffer stated she was using a kitchen knife to cut up a potato when an argument started between her and a female family member. During the argument, the family member got up close to Huffer and tried to initialize a fight. Huffer turned to walk away when the female hit her on the back. Huffer turned to face the family member, cutting her on the arm.
Popenfoose spoke with a witness who stated she observed the argument. She stated the victim got very close to Huffer and tried to talk her into a fight. Huffer turned to walk away when the victim hit her on the back at which time Huffer turned around, cutting the female on the arm.
Family members under the age of 16 were present when Huffer stabbed the victim. As a result of the incident, a protective order was issued against Huffer, preventing her from possessing firearms, ammunition or deadly weapons and from contacting the victim.
