Kitten recovers from being kicked, police search for suspects

LaPorte Police are investigating a case of animal abuse after two men were seen repeatedly kicking a small kitten.

The incident happened last week on the 500 block of Detroit Street, according to our news partners at WNDU. The suspects left the area when they were confronted by witnesses.

The kitten was transported to LaPorte County Animal Shelter where emergency care was provided. Veterinarian Patrick Dorrah says the kitten’s age prevented her from being injured even worse.

“The question several people have asked is ‘How did that happen and we didn’t have broken bones or anything like that?’ The only answer I have for that is just she’s a very young kitten, they have a lot of elasticity to the bones that older animals and older people don’t have. Maybe that’s what luckily got us through the event,” he explains.

Laila the kitten has overcome her serious injuries and is set to be adopted Thursday.

Meanwhile, police are looking for two white men in their late teens to early 20s that drive an older model white Audi sedan. If you have any information about this case, please contact LaPorte Police Specialist Bill Bunton at (219) 362-9446.
