LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department says “hostage situation” was “overblown”

The LaGrange County Sheriff’s department says no charges will be filed after what originally came in as a welfare call was “overblown” by family members prompting a police response for a hostage situation.

Deputies say a man was inside a home with a 9-month-old baby near County Road 750 North and County Road 1150 West just before 10 p.m. Sunday night.

Corporal Derek Baldridge says the man initially refused to talk with police.

“After talking to him on the phone for a while, he agreed to come out and talk to us then the situation deescalated,” he explained to WNDU.

Officers say they were able to resolve the situation peacefully around 11 p.m.
