Local unemployment takes slight uptick, remains one of the lowest in the state

Mirroring the slight uptick in the state unemployment, Kosciusko County unemployment rates went up slight in May from April, but remain far improved over the past year.

The newest data released on Thursday from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development shows Kosciusko County unemployment at 3.1 percent, up from 2.9 percent in April. Overall labor force in the county is up to 43,562. Kosciusko County continues to have one of the best unemployment rates in the state, ranking in the top 15.

Other area counties saw small rises in unemployment, anywhere between one tenth and four tenths of a percentage point. The overall unemployment in Indiana is at four percent.
