Man arrested after knocking out another with baseball bat

A Warsaw man is facing a battery charge after police say he knocked another man out with a baseball bat.

Michael Angel Islas, 67, of 947 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw, is charged with one count of battery with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony. Islas was arrested late Sunday night, Jan. 14, and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail.

Islas was arguing with another man when his daughter asked the man to leave, according to Warsaw Police Department Capt. Kip Shuter.

As the man went to leave, he made a comment about wanting to harm himself. Islas’s daughter yelled for her father.

Police believe Islas thought that the man was going to harm his daughter and went upstairs with a baseball bat. After the man pushed back, Islas struck the man in the head with the bat, knocking him unconscious, Shuter said.

The man regained consciousness by the time the police arrived on the scene and was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital.

Islas is out on bond.
