Medtronic insulin pumps recalled due to hacking risk

Some insulin pumps made by Medtronic are being recalled.

The FDA says the MiniMed insulin pumps could be hacked by those nearby who can connect wirelessly, then potentially change the settings to deliver too much or too little insulin.

So far there have been no reports of this happening. Still, anyone using the pump should get help right away if they think their MiniMed settings have changed.

Medtronic says there are around 4,000 people who may be using the pumps in question. See the full list of recalled pumps here.

The FDA says Medtronic is providing alternative insulin pumps to patients that have enhanced built-in cybersecurity features.

In the meantime, diabetics should talk with their doctors about switching to models with more cybersecurity protection.
