Memorial Day Services Planned In Kosciusko County

The annual Memorial Day services conducted by John C. Peterson American Legion Post 49 and James W. Sittler Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126 will be May 30 at Oakwood Cemetery.
The color guard, firing squad and other organizational units will form in front of the sexton’s office and begin marching to the ampitheater at 10:55 a.m.
The program will be at the cemetery band stand. Jerry Hogan will give an address. After the colors have been retired, the program will proceed to the Gar Circle and Legion Circle 2 where a presentation of a wreath will be placed on Legion Circle 2 by Commander Dexter Wise and Auxiliary President Connie Schlag.
Taps will follow the presentation. The program will conclude at Legion Circles 1 and 3, where wreath presentations will take place at both circles with Taps to follow the presentations. There will be a carry-in dinner at Post 49 following the program. The Post will provide the meat.

Mentone
The Mentone Chamber of Commerce and the Lawrence Bell Aircraft Museum are hosting a Memorial Day Service at the Circle in the Mentone Cemetery at 2 p.m. May 29. They will honor deceased veterans of the area.
They would like to add the names of loved ones to their Honor Roll that have not been listed. The roll will be read during the program. Call 574-353-7460 or 574-353-7113 with the veteran’s name and when they served. The program will close with a reception at the Bell Aircraft Museum, 210 S. Oak St., Mentone.

Leesburg
The Leesburg Community will have a Memorial Day parade and service at 10:30 a.m. May 30.
There will be a flag-raising ceremony by the Boy Scouts before the parade at the town hall. The parade will proceed from the town hall on Pearl Street then west on Prairie Street to the Leesburg Cemetery. All veterans, children, businesses and community organizations are invited to participate. It is asked that all participants be in place by 10:15 a.m.

Syracuse
A parade for Memorial Day will be in Syracuse May 30 at 1:30 p.m.

Pierceton
A parade will be in Pierceton at 11 a.m. May 30 that will begin at the Pierceton Fire Department to Brower Park. There will be two meals provided at noon and 4 p.m. at American Legion Post 258. Carry-in dishes are encouraged and the meal is open to the public.

North Webster
North Webster Post 253 Honor Guard Memorial Day services are May 30 at 9 a.m. at Thorn Cemetery; 9:30 a.m. at Salem Cemetery; 10 a.m. at Mock Cemetery; and 10:30 a.m. at Post 253;. The North Webster parade is at 10:45 a.m., and at 11 a.m. is the ceremony and program at North Webster Cemetery. At noon is the flag raising at Post 253.
In addition, the Post 253 Honor Guard will hold services at Yogi Bear Campground May 28

North Manchester
A Memorial Day service will be at 9 a.m. May 30 at Halderman Park in North Manchester.

Etna Green
Firemen should meet at 9:45 a.m. May 29 at the Methodist Church for a Memorial Day service. Services will start at 10 a.m. at the church, then a service will follow at Etna Green cemetery. For more information, call R.B. Conley at 574-858-9326.
