Muncie Woman Falls Asleep While Cooking, Charged With Neglect

A Muncie woman is accused of being intoxicated and falling asleep while baking cookies in the presence of her four children. The smoke from burning cookies activated an alarm early Wednesday, prompting a neighbor to call emergency responders. Firefighters reportedly had to awaken 28-year-old Caitlin Patterson, who was asleep in her bed. Her four children, who were also asleep, were not injured. Police say Patterson's blood-alcohol content was at 0.115 percent. Police also said they found marijuana on Patterson's bed. Child Protective Services placed the children in the care of their grandmother. Patterson, preliminarily charged with four counts of neglect of a dependent and possession of marijuana, is being held in the Delaware County Jail.
